The Machine Tool Sector meets the Minister for Science and Innovation

The Science and Innovation Minister, Cristina Garmendia, accompanied by Maurici Lucena and Andrés Zabara, the Managing Director and Technology Manager of CDTI, the Centre for Industrial Technological Development, held a meeting with leading machine tool sector representatives yesterday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Science and Innovation.
AFM, the Spanish Association of Machine Tool Manufacturers, was represented by its President Koldo Arandia and Vice-president Manuel Motilva, together with Managing Director Xabier Ortueta and the Manager of Invema, AFM’s technology unit, Fernando Bailach.
At the meeting, after a presentation of the situation and characteristics of the Spanish machine tool sector, the AFM representatives thanked the CDTI for their support over the last years. A review was also made of the situation of the Cenit machine tool project “Advanced eEe-Technologies for manufacturing equipment and processes in 2015”, the largest research project ever embarked on by the sector and which will conclude this year with very positive results. Over 70 demonstrators, testing benches, prototypes and software applications, over 5 patent applications and more than 35 publications and conferences will have been achieved by the end of the project. Finally, the Association spoke about the need to obtain more backing for research, development and innovation by the companies in the sector.
