The company chairman, Carlos Palacio Oriol, received the award at an event held in Vitoria on 20 November last, which was attended by more than 250 businessmen and authorities.
The company has been a pioneering force in innovative railway developments in Spain and is admired and studied all over the world. Likewise, Talgo stands out for its business model, as since the 50’s it has included train maintenance as part of a complete package offered to rail operators.
As part of its commitment to the environment, the company is developing more capable, lighter trains that consume less energy. It is currently developing the 'AVRIL' (acronym for Alta Velocidad Rueda Independiente Ligero), a new generation of high-speed train that can have up to 750 seats and achieve a speed of up to 380 kilometres an hour, but with 30% less weight than other high-speed trains.
The Talgo company was awarded the prize by the Alava Chamber of Commerce for "investing in the multi-location of its activity to reinforce its development and economic growth". Located in the town of Rivabellosa in the province of Alava, the company designs and produces high technology railway material, maintenance equipment and applications for gauge changing. In addition to Spain, it also operates production plants in the United States, Germany, Kazakhstan and Bosnia, and has an export presence in 17 countries.
The Chamber of Commerce highlighted "the significant investment worldwide for the consolidation and extension of the company’s international activities", as well as "the recognised high level of value added of its exports in technological terms".
