Bernabé Unda was welcomed by José Miguel Arregi, Vice-president of the Mondragon Corporation, Aitor Irure, the President of Fagor Automation and Pedro Ruiz de Aguirre, the plant’s Managing Director, together with other company managers, who spent the day visiting the different facilities making up the cooperative’s factory.

Fagor Automation has manufactured measurement and testing equipment for the Machine Tool sector and other industries for over 25 years. Its managers spoke to the Regional Industry Minister about their firm commitment to technological research and development projects for new products and their internationalisation plans, coinciding with the recent opening of new offices in India and Russia.

Bernabé Unda took the opportunity to discover all the details of the research projects currently being undertaken by the 80 researchers of Fagor Automation’s own research and development centre, AETOK. These include European projects forming part of the Seventh Framework Programme (7FP), Spanish projects carried out in close collaboration with the Optics Department of the Complutense University of Madrid, and projects run by the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country, closely collaborating with technology centres such as Ideko, Mondragón Univertsitatea, Ikerlan and Koniker, amongst others.

Finally, the Minister visited one of Fagor Automation’s most technologically advanced factories, the glass engraving plant in Eskoriatza, where the manufacturing conditions require a high degree of control as regards both atmospheric and mechanics stability.
