According to the general information published by the fair itself, which was held from 5 to 10 October in Milan, Italian visitors were logically greater in number, accounting for 59% of the total, followed by the Germans (12,8%), Americans, Czechs, Finns, French, Japanese, Indians, Poles, Russians and Swiss. It is worth highlighting that of the total number of foreign visitors, 40.1% came from outside Europe. In total there were 124,660 visitors from 99 different countries.

As far as the exhibitors are concerned, the 1,400 companies present came from 39 different countries and occupied 95,400 square metres. After Italy, Germany, Japan, Taiwan and Switzerland, Spain was sixth in terms of surface area taken up. The number of Asian companies present was striking. They accounted for 19.4% of the total number of exhibitors.

From the exhibiting point of view it was a very interesting fair in which top level machines, equipment and solutions were presented. In this respect, the participation of AFM companies was at the forefront just as on other occasions. Although it is true that there was not an especially high number of things that were really new, the consolidation of different technologies applied to the manufacturing world was quite clear.

As far as sales are concerned, in general it was rather discreet fair, held in not very favourable circumstances. In addition to the well-known fact that holding the fair in Milan always reduces its size and the number of visitors, there was also the adverse economic situation. In general, the companies taking part rated it as worse than the previous edition held in 2007, which on the other hand was rated as one of the best EMO fairs ever. However, given that expectations were very low, in some cases the results were considered acceptable in relation to the number and quality of the contacts made. As always the real situation in terms of the results will be seen in a few months time.

It is also worth pointing out the support received from all levels of Government in Spain. During the fair, the machine-tool manufacturing companies received visits from, amongst others, the General Secretary for Innovation from the Ministry of Science and Innovation, the General Director of Industry and the General Director of Development, both from the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade, the Minister of Industry and the Deputy Minister of Innovation and Energy from the Basque Government, the Director of the Industrial Prospects Observatory from the Catalan Government, the Councillor in charge of Innovation and the Knowledge Society from the regional Council of Gipuzkoa and the Director of the Industrial Products Division of the ICEX.
